Dawgs Tie and Win in Longest Double Header Since Moving from Roxbury

Tice and Coltelli Combine For 9 Hits and 5 RBI

Following a one-hour delay to start game one, the NJ Dawgs took a 2-0 lead against the Newark Astros in the first inning on an RBI single by Bert Tice, knocking in starting pitcher Tyler Coltelli. The Dawgs led until the sixth inning when the Newark scored on an RBI single and RBI double to tie the the game at 6.  Randy Squier's sac. fly scored Mike Moore in the 8th to put the Dawgs ahead. However, the Astros answered with the tying run in the bottom of the 8th. Since the hometown Astros chose to play two games following the delayed start, game one ended in a 7-7 tie.

Tyler Coltelli pitched the first four innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with six walks and four strikeouts. John Minetti pitched the second half of the game, striking out six, walking two, and giving up three earned runs on five hits.

The Dawgs bats stayed hot in game two. Following a lead-off double by Coltelli, Dylan Harlos knocked in the first of three runs the Dawgs scored in the bottom of the third inning. The Dawgs scored one run in the fifth. They capped off a six-run sixth inning when Squier knocked in Ian Denzer-Weiler to end game two in a Mercy Rule.

Harlos got the decision in game two, striking out four and giving up five hits.

The Dawgs will travel to Roxbury to play the Expos in a double header starting at 10:00am at Horshoe Lake Park on Sunday.
